About Levain Bakery
It all began with a simple mission between two great friends: create the worldβs greatest chocolate chip cookie. The rest is history and baked fresh daily.
Located at 1518 Walnut St, Philadelphia, PA 19102, Levain Bakery operates as a bakery serving Philadelphia in Pennsylvania. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it.
In Philadelphia, the best-known bakeries and bagel shops have lines on weekend mornings, so arrive early or order ahead where the shop offers it. Across Pennsylvania, immigrant bakeries add Mexican pan dulce, Vietnamese banh mi bread, Chinese buns, Middle Eastern sweets and European rye to the mix, and many gluten-free and vegan bakeries have opened in larger cities. Check the listing for hours, whether the shop accepts custom cake orders and its Google rating before you go, and call about allergens, since small kitchens often share equipment. Day-old bread and end-of-day discounts are common if you ask.
Hours are published for 7 days a week. The most common schedule is 7 amβ11 pm. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (215) 999-2711. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. More information is available on its website, levainbakery.com.
On Google it holds a rating of 4.4 out of 5 from 351 reviews, which is a strong result for a bakery in Philadelphia and suggests consistent service.
Philadelphia is in Pennsylvania, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Getting around Philadelphia is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across Pennsylvania's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

Stopped for a quick bite and had a wonderful experience. It's super easy to grab something quick and dart to your next meeting or errand. The staff was lovely and the physical location is clean and well designed. I got an iced cookie milk latte and a cinnamon roll muffin!

I lived near this bakery when I lived in NYC and loved their cookies. So excited itβs in Philly! Their cookies are bulky and soft and chewy and perfect. They sell breads, muffins, sweet loafs, and specialty cookies every so often. I LOVE their oatmeal raisin cookie!

If you love chocolate chip cookies, the best there is in the world is Levain. Born out NYC's Upper West Side, Levain is now throughout the East Coast. Walk inside this location and find a giant room with products for sale and all the pastries on display. If it's your first time, order the chocolate chip walnut one. It's their original. It always comes out warm and gooey inside. There's a little nook that fits a small group of people if you want to stay, but most people get their cookie to go.

John made our experience a 10/10! The best cookies in the city and the friendliest staff. I brought my mom and brother from out of town, and Johnβwho was working the front counterβwent above and beyond to make it a great experience for all of us. Highly recommend!

We were absolutely thrilled to stumble upon this bakery in Downtown Philadelphia on Walnut Street. Having enjoyed their treats in New York City, itβs wonderful to see them bring their concept and incredible quality down here. While they do offer fresh bread daily, the star of the showβand what we simply couldn't get enough ofβare the cookies. These are, without a doubt, some of the best cookies we have ever eaten. They offer a staggering variety, as visible in their display cases, but our personal favorites were the rich Dark Peanut Butter and the classic, perfectly baked Chocolate Chip cookies. Seriously, donβt leave without trying their selection of "goofy cookies"βthey live up to the hype! The rest of the menu is reasonably priced, and the selection of different coffees is excellent, rounding out the perfect bakery experience. This spot is a must-visit whether youβre passing through Downtown Philly or looking for your new daily indulgence.
